Latin America is the world leader in aluminium can recycling. The reasons are partially environmental but also a sad picture of social differences and lack of job opportunities, driving many citizens to literally survive by picking empty aluminium cans from dump yards and streets all over the continent.
Since 1999 Mavi builds charging feeders for recycling furnaces, which almost reprocess 85% of cans produced later shaped into ingots for new use. The heavy compacted aluminium can blocks are dumped onto the feeder, up to 5 tonnes per charge, and in aproximately 40 seconds fed into the furnace spout. The charging speed can be changed with a frequency inverter.
The faster charging method with this kind of equipment and a better cycle adjustment of the furnaces has led many customers to buy more empty cans and pay better prices to all those picking the cans in the streets, even allowing the establishmet of many cooperatives, softening a little the sharp social problem arising from Latin America´s still prevailing vast poverty.
